Infineon Introduces Power PROFET™ + 24/48V Switch Series to Support Next-Generation Automotive Power Systems

As automotive architecture transitions toward hybrid and electric vehicles, traditional battery systems are increasingly being supplemented or replaced by 48V power supplies. With 12V and 24V power grids reaching their limits, this shift is expected to become the new standard for future electric vehicles. The adoption of 48V systems helps reduce current flow, simplify wiring complexity, and enable advanced features that enhance passenger comfort and efficiency. Additionally, as both primary and secondary power distribution systems become electrified, conventional relays and fuses need to be replaced with more advanced solutions.
To address these evolving requirements, Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) has launched the Power PROFET™ + 24/48V switch series, specifically designed to meet the demands of modern vehicle power systems.
The Power PROFET™ + 24/48V series features a compact TO leadless package and includes two high-side switch variants: BTH50030-1LUA with an RDS(ON) of 3.0 mΩ and BTH50015-1LUA with an RDS(ON) of 1.5 mΩ, which minimize power losses in high-current applications. These devices are ideal for current and future automotive electrical systems, commercial and hybrid vehicles, and next-generation electric vehicles, enabling a safer, greener, and more comfortable driving experience.
High Efficiency and Space-Saving Design
One of the key advantages of the Power PROFET™ + 24/48V switch series is its high efficiency and compact footprint. These highly integrated switches feature resettable and diagnostic capabilities, ensuring optimal performance in harsh environments with on-resistances as low as 1.5 mΩ. Their rugged design makes them well-suited for engine compartments and other demanding automotive conditions.
With over 1,000,000 switching cycles, these switches significantly outlast traditional relays, which typically handle around 200,000 cycles, providing superior reliability.
Advanced Protection and Diagnostics for Enhanced Safety
The series incorporates built-in protection and diagnostic functions, including short-circuit, overcurrent, and overtemperature protection, ensuring the safety of both the device and the vehicle’s power system. Diagnostic signals allow for advanced fault detection, improving overall vehicle reliability by preventing power network failures.
The 8-pin TO leadless package reduces the package size by 23% compared to the D2PAK, which offers similar thermal performance. With ±5% accuracy in calibrated load current detection, the current can be easily monitored by reading the analog voltage output on the IS pin. Additionally, this switch series complies with the PRO-SIL™ ISO 26262 standard and includes safety application notes to assist in evaluating hardware components in line with ISO 26262 functional safety requirements.
Seamless Integration with Infineon's Online Simulation Tools
To facilitate seamless integration, the Power PROFET™ + 24/48V series is supported by Infineon's Automotive Power Explorer, an online simulation tool available through the Infineon Developer Center. This tool helps calculate fuse characteristics and visualize sensed current ranges for specific load currents, ensuring accurate and efficient implementation.
